EARTHQUAAAAKE!

I work in a wine store, and nothing broke. I can't believe it.

LOS ANGELES, July 29 (Reuters) - A moderate earthquake struck east of Los Angeles on Tuesday, shaking tall buildings in the city but there were no immediate reports of injuries, major damage or power outages.

The earthquake, which struck at 11:42 a.m. local time (1842 GMT), was measured at magnitude 5.8. It was centered about 30 miles (48 km) east of Los Angeles near the community of Chino Hills, where it was felt strongly.

But witnesses reported feeling the shaking strongly in neighboring Orange County, as far south as San Diego and as far east as Las Vegas. There were no reports of power outages.

no reports of power outages MY ASS. an underground transformer exploded near our building and the power went out in 3 blocks for an hour and a half, this shut down the Universal Building, the Yahoo Group, Sony BMG, MTV Networks, Ralphs, Starbucks, Subway, and a Quiznos.

The worst part was that as we were all leaving to go home, the power came back on. can you fucking believe that? fuck today.

The damage reports are weirdly spaced--my co-worker who lives in Costa Mesa had major breakage from things falling off the walls and tipping over in her china cabinet, yet, as we know, nothing in The Heights was damaged. Sorry that Ken didn't get a day off out of it. . .
